ASEAN REGIONAL FORUM SECURITY POLICY CONFERENCE (ASPC) CONVENED VIRTUALLY

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Thursday, 27 May 2021 – The 18th ASEAN Regional Forum Security Policy Conference (ASPC), chaired by Brunei Darussalam, was held virtually at the International Convention Centre (ICC), Berakas today.

Chairing the Conference was Brigadier General (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Shahril Anwar bin Haji Ma’awiah, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence. The conference facilitated an open and interactive exchange of views among ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) defence officials on topics including regional and international issues of concern, current and future security threats and challenges, including impacts of emerging technologies to defence and security, and confidence-building measures and cooperation for peace and stability in the respective sub-regions and broader Asia-Pacific.

Twenty-five (25) members of the ARF and representatives from the ARF Unit from of the ASEAN Secretariat attended the conference. In addition to ASEAN member states, ARF members comprise Australia, Bangladesh, Canada, People’s Republic of China (PRC), Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), European Union, Republic of India, Japan, Mongolia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Republic of Korea, Russian Federation, Sri Lanka, Timor Leste and the United States of America.

ASPC, which first convened in Beijing on 5 November 2004, was established to open further new channels of dialogue and exchanges among defence officials, diplomats, military academic personages and further increase mutual trust and understanding among defence officials. Since then, ASPC has facilitated the exchange of views among the ARF members and promoted an understanding of important defence and security issues in the region. 




ASEAN REGIONAL FORUM SECURITY POLICY CONFERENCE (ASPC) YANG KE-18 DIADAKAN SECARA DALAM TALIAN

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Khamis, 27 Mei 2021 – ASEAN Regional Forum Security Policy Conference (ASPC) kali ke-18 yang dipengerusikan oleh Negara Brunei Darussalam telah diadakan pada hari ini melalui sidang video secara dalam talian, dan mengambil tempat di Pusat Persidangan Antarabangsa, Berakas. 

Persidangan berkenaan telah dipengerusikan oleh Yang Mulia Brigedier Jeneral (B) Dato Seri Pahlawan Shahril Anwar bin Haji Ma’awiah, Setiausaha Tetap Kementerian Pertahanan. Persidangan berkenaan memainkan peranan sebagai pemudah cara antara pegawai-pegawai ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) untuk bertukar-tukar pandangan secara terbuka dan interaktif mengenai isu-isu serantau dan antarabangsa, ancaman dan cabaran keselamatan yang dihadapi pada masa kini dan masa hadapan termasuk impak teknologi berkembang (emerging technologies) terhadap pertahanan dan keselamatan, dan langkah-langkah pembinaan keyakinan dan kerjasama bagi keamanan dan keselamatan rantau Asia Pasifik.

Sebanyak 25 ahli-ahli ARF serta wakil dari Unit ARF di Sekretariat ASEAN telah menghadiri persidangan berkenaan. Selain negara-negara ahli ASEAN, ahli-ahli ARF termasuk Australia, Bangladesh, Kanada, Republik Rakyat China, Republik Demokratik Rakyat Korea, Kesatuan Eropah, Republik India, Jepun, Mongolia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Republik Korea, Persekutuan Rusia, Sri Lanka, Timor Leste dan Amerika Syarikat.

ASPC ditubuhkan bagi membuka saluran-saluran baru untuk dialog dan pertukaran sesama pegawai-pegawai pertahanan, diplomat, ahli akademik pertahanan. Ia juga bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kepercayaan dan persefahaman sesama pegawai-pegawai pertahanan. ASPC buat pertama kalinya diadakan di Beijing pada 5 November 2004 dan sejak itu ASPC memudahkan pertukaran pandangan di antara ahli-ahli ARF dan juga menggalakkan persefahaman terhadap isu-isu penting pertahanan dan keselamatan serantau.
